Food film on March 14

The Haines contingent of We the People will present the 2011 documentary “Farmageddon: The Unseen War on American Family Farms” 6 p.m. March 14 at the library.

The film highlights the impacts of growing food locally, as well as the U.S. government favoring corporations over the interests of small business owners and farmers when it comes to food production, We the People member Carol Mitchell said.

Mitchell, who will be introducing “Farmageddon,” called the film “eye-opening.” After seeing the film on the Internet, Mitchell suggested We the People screen the documentary to boost consumer awareness.

“I originally saw it on Hulu.com and thought it was so outstanding. It’s really about Americans’ choices for food and access to food grown by local farmers... It’s a big shout-out to local farmers and gardeners and people who care about what they eat. It’s geared toward all of us,” Mitchell said.
