Flashing replaced around swim pool

The Haines pool reopened Tuesday.

The borough closed the facility last week to replace corroded flashing that separates the pool and its surrounding deck.

The corrosion has caused sharp edges around the flashing where water leaks below the raised pool structure, said borough facilities manager Carlos Jimenez. New flashing will be floor-welded to the deck using a heat machine, he said.

Jimenez said he didn’t know if the flashing was original to the construction of the pool in the early 1980s and said it may have fallen victim to the pool’s salt chlorination system.

The repairs will cost about $5,000 in parts and labor, he said.
