Museum hosts walks

The Sheldon Museum is hosting a series of walks around town, from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays.

The walks offer an opportunity for residents to learn about their town and neighbors. Recent destinations included Valley of the Eagles golf links, the radio tower atop Mount Ripinsky and Battery Point.

One walk each month is designed for senior citizens.

Organizer Scott Pearce, the museum’s education coordinator, said walks often incorporate natural history, cultural and geologic information, as well as local experts. A walk at Lily Lake included a tour of the water treatment plant with operator Scott Bradford.

Groups like Takshanuk Watershed Council, Community Youth Development, Chilkoot Indian Association and Lynn Canal Conservation have helped out, Pearce said.
