Students raised $1,000 for orphanage

On behalf of the Haines High School Student Council, I would like to thank the Haines People for Peace for providing us with another grant this year to assist us in our support of the Kilimanjaro Orphanage Fund. We started with the $500 from them, matched it with a fierce penny battle here in the high school, and then we also earned another $500 from the state student council (AASG). It is often difficult to choose an organization to support that is so far away because we don’t really know how the money is spent. We are so lucky to have community members that work directly with the orphanage, which enable us to hear first-hand accounts about how the money is used. Once again, thank you for all of your support.
