Fish and Game advisory group to meet
The Upper Lynn Canal Fish and Game Advisory Committee will hold elections at a meeting 5 p.m. June 1.
One seat on the panel is up for grabs. An election of officers also will be held.
The group also may take input on a proposal that would prohibit sport fishing adjacent to a planned, riverside bear-viewing platform to be built next year at Chilkoot River.
At last month’s meeting of the group, wildlife biologist Ryan Scott reported that a deer pellet survey was to be conducted this month on Sullivan Island. Unlike pellet surveys done elsewhere, this one will provide trends but not an actual population count, Scott told the group.
Deer are harvested on the island that lies about 15 miles south of downtown. In 2010, more than 40 were taken there, including 28 bucks and 19 does.
The nine-member committee, which includes two Skagway members, makes recommendations to the state on regulatory issues concerning fish and wildlife in the upper Lynn Canal.
