Clinic expansion set
The Haines clinic is set for a 600-square-foot addition this year, including four offices and expanded physical therapy space.
“It will be nice to have the extra space,” said Marcia Scott, clinic administrator in Haines. “We have some people here who don’t have a designated office; they just have to kind of find a desk where they can.”
Project manager Matt Christner with the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) said the work is “mainly just a shuffle to try to fit everybody a little better.” He noted the overall facility is more than 10,000 square feet.
Christner said a renovation of the building’s interior also would be completed.
“There’s a lot of little areas that are going to be touched during this renovation,” he said. “It’s hard to say the square footage; sometimes it’s just an item.”
Bids are due March 29, and the contract completion time is 210 calendar days. Christner said the budget has been estimated at between $750,000 and $1 million.
Administrator Scott said other planned upgrades are a new X-ray room and an extended-stay room to provide a “more comfortable space for patients who are here for observation care, instead of staying in the treatment room and the emergency room.” A current office will be converted into an examination room.
