Hear, hear to Tom Morphet’s commentary to do away with designated seats on the Haines Borough Assembly. I don’t mean to bad-mouth democracy/majority rule/competition, I just want to voice my strong agreement with any kind of behavior that supports consensual style decision-making. Additionally, in the spirit of great minds think alike, and though I offered this suggestion too late to Julie Cozzi, remember that temporarily empty seat on the assembly? That could have been filled by all the assembly members voting for their top two (two different people) and the person with the most votes, whether number one or number two, would have gotten the seat. How upset could anyone have been with that result? How could it ever have been unfair for the Haines populace? Whether you’re thinking Haines or the planet Earth, it’s a small boat and we’re all on it. Change can be painful and consensus is often not easy to reach. Still, I feel it’s the only real game to play. Thank you.
