Fair seeking young artists
The Southeast Alaska State Fair is looking for dedicated artists age 10 to 19 to assist in the creation of murals to hang behind the main stage at this year’s fair. Tim Shields will direct the effort. The goal is to decorate the stage with "bright and lively paintings that will communicate the spirit of the fair." The project is a joint effort by the Southeast Alaska State Fair and the Haines Borough Public Library. High school students can earn community service hours for participating. The first meeting for the project takes place Monday, July 11 from 1 p.m to 4 p.m. at the main stage at the fairgrounds.
