'Nobility' invited for royal wedding party
Dukes, duchesses, earls, barons and countesses of the Chilkat Valley are invited to the royal wedding of Prince William of Wales to Katherine Middleton, an opportunity to don a posh frock for a good cause in Haines.
The fund-raiser for the Chilkat Center, sponsored by Lynn Canal Community Players, starts 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30 at the center lobby. It will include a video recording of the royal nuptials, a lunch, tea and announcement of esteemed local guests.
“The Queen is coming and there will be other local dignitaries,” said organizer Annette Smith. “Very likely Governor Parnell will be there. Who knows what other members of the nobility will show up,” Smith said.
“This is an opportunity for people to dress up and see some royalty and maybe put on a hat. It’s a good, spring event and a wonderful mother-daughter event. We’ll sip spritzer and watch the wedding, then have a luncheon with tea and wedding cake,” Smith said.
Residents are encouraged to dust off their royal finery and to use their imaginations, Smith said. “People can come as their own characters, and create their own titles. They can come as a rock star, if they want to. I’m sure there’ll be an appearance by Sir Elton John.” Royal hats will be offered on loan for the occasion.
Invitations will be sent by the Queen and arriving members of the nobility will be announced by Lord Chamberlain, she said. “We got rid of our royals years ago, but we’re still having fun with their royals from across the pond.”
Seating will be limited and invitations are available for $15 at Babbling Book or Buckshot & Bobby Pins. No invitations will be sold at the door.
