Bradfords lead Dolphins' effort
The sibling duo of Casey Bradford, 13, and Brittney Bradford, 11, represented the Haines Dolphins swim team at a Fairbanks meet last weekend, and each swam in the maximum seven events.
"It’s hard to find their best stroke," said head coach Steve Vick. "I know what their favorites are, but their best stroke changes quite frequently with these two."
The meet was an age-group state championship, with swimmers qualifying to compete against other kids their own age.
"It kind of leveled out the competition a bit; that way you’re not 13 racing against a 14-year-old, because there can be a huge difference," Vick said.
Casey swam the 50-yard freestyle; 100-yard backstroke, breaststroke, fly and freestyle; and 200-yard freestyle and individual medley. He was eighth in the 50 free, ninth in the 100 back, and 10th in the 100 fly and 200 free.
Casey set four personal-best times at the meet. He cut more than three seconds from his 200 individual medley and more than two seconds from his 200 free.
Brittney entered the 50-yard backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle; and 100-yard backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley. She was eighth in the 50 breaststroke and ninth in the 100 back.
Brittney had personal-bests in the 50 back and 100 free early in the meet, and then closed by dropping eight seconds from her time in the 100 back.
