June's view of Supreme Court off base
Tim June credits the Supreme Court’s "bizarre," 5-4 decision in the Citizens United Case with ending the electoral process "for the people." I disagree. American businessmen are citizens as are the rest of us. Limiting the ability of any citizen or group of citizens to fully participate in the electoral process is simply indefensible.
There have been several 5-4 Supreme Court decisions which I thought were entirely wrong, notably the decision which allowed the government greater latitude to seize private property under the guise of eminent domain. All of these decisions were supported by justices Ginsburg and Stevens – neither of whom was appointed by President Bush.
When we attempt to belittle or demonize individuals or groups of individuals with whom we disagree we lose the ability to conduct a civil or constructive debate.
