Easy ID for
local police

A man allegedly attempting to break into a downtown food stand over the weekend saved police some legwork by leaving his driver’s license wedged between the lock and the door jam and his skateboard and cell phone nearby on the pavement.

The break-in attempt was reported to police about 8:45 a.m. Saturday after an employee arrived to open the Top Frog ice cream and sandwich stand.

Police arrested Timothy C. Brown, 22, of Yakutat for attempted burglary after he stopped at the police station to report his skateboard had been stolen while he’d been out drinking at downtown bars.

Brown identified his skateboard, cell phone, and ID at the station, and police charged him with the crime.

Police chief Gary Lowe said Brown made no statement.
